Child's Play?

Children learn by playing. Therapeutic play creates an atmosphere for learning, to help children use their senses to explore objects, and to improve the child’s overall thinking skills. In the following pictures, our speech therapist Lydia engaged "B" in a coloring activity. "B" loves to color. What she doesn't know is, this coloring task was specifically designed to target vocabulary, color recognition, and error speech sounds that "B" struggles with.

A former Little Chatterbox mother posted the following message on Facebook. She wanted to share her son, J's story with visitor's to the site in an effort to motivate and inspire others.

"This might be a long post but please read. I want to share about the power of PRAYER AND early childhood intervention. Many don't know, but "J" has been in therapy for speech and a learning disability since he was 2 years old. At age 3, Rankin County School District enrolled him into their program and he was officially diagnosed as "Developmentally Delayed". Since that time, "J" has had wonderful teachers and therapists, praying church preschool teachers and our family that worked with him, loved him, held him accountable, pushed him and were patient with him. When he started Kindergarten, all services rolled over to his elementary school. He was re-tested last month as a routine evalution done every 3 years. I'm so happy to say as of today, my baby TESTED OUT of special education!! His special education teacher told us today that in her 14 years, she has NEVER had a child TEST OUT of special education. " J" has come a long way in 4 years and it is a true testament to my baby, praying family and friends and the dedication of early childhood education AND intervention. I am a firm believer that early childhood education should be required AND funded fully. I'm just so full right now and so proud of my baby I can't get myself together! He may even get a new Thomas Train this weekend!"
